Meet the 2017-2018 Executive Officers

President: Rachel Hartwig

My name is Rachel and I am excited to be serving as President of the United Nations Student Association this year. I first got into Model UN in my freshman year of college and have loved being involved in the activity and this club ever since. I am entering my senior year where I will be finishing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Sociology. In the future, I hope to attend law school and pursue a career in law or diplomacy. This year I am most excited about expanding our MinneMUN conference and helping club members reach their goals. If you are interested in Model UN or joining our club I'd love to chat with you and can be reached at hartw066@umn.edu.

Vice President: Andrea Ocando Parra

Hi everyone! My name is Andrea and I’m currently the Vice-President of UNSA. I am an international student from Caracas, Venezuela and I came to the U.S. for college three years ago so I am currently a senior. I am majoring in Applied Economics and Global Studies with a focus in Global Political Economy in Latin America. I started MUN one year before my senior year in high school and I completely loved it simply because I get to learn a lot about different things that are going on politically and because I get to share my passion with the other members of the club who are also concerned about these same things. If you want to reach out to me my email is ocand001@umn.edu. Hope to see you during meetings!

Secretary General: Sourojit Ghosh

Hi, my name is Sourojit Ghosh and I am a sophomore here at the U, studying Computer Science with a minor in Creative Writing. I am an international student, from Calcutta, India. I have been a part of Model UN for about four years now, and as Secretary General of MinneMUN 2018, I look forward to working with everyone at UNSA to make it an enriching experience for all those attending it.

Additionally, as someone who will be working with Student Writing Support in the Fall and hopefully going forward, I can help write or edit position papers for anyone who needs any help or just a second opinion and feedback. If you have any questions about MinneMUN, position papers, Model UN in general or just want to chat, I can be reached at ghosh100@umn.edu.

Treasurer: Margaret Plumart

Hello! My name is Margaret Plumart and I am a senior from Washington, D.C. I moved to Minneapolis for school and a change of pace, and I am studying political science and environmental policy. What interests me are the intricacies of international politics and the ways in which we can develop our laws and economies to become more environmentally sustainable. I have studied abroad in China and Spain, and work part time at the Learning Abroad Center. My hobbies include yoga, painting, and cooking!

I am very excited to serve MUN as Treasurer, and if you have questions about finances, studying abroad, or are interested in joining the UNSA Fundraising Committee, please feel free to contact me at pluma004@umn.edu.

Director of Public Relations: Ray Weishan

I am Ray Weishan, a junior at the U, double majoring in Political Science and Sociology, and I am the PR Manager.  I hail from a small town in southeast Wisconsin (about 40 miles north of Milwaukee) called Kewaskum.  I am a huge political and sports nerd.  Catch me reading articles or listening to podcasts on anything related to those.  Die-hard basketball, Milwaukee Bucks fan (#BucksIn6).  Meanwhile, I actually am horrible at the sport.

I start participating in MUN when I got to the U.  Our current president, Rachel, got me involved in the club freshman year and I have been loving it ever since.  I have taken place in a number of conferences all over the US and Canada as well as consult for the Minnesota United Nations Association, mostly as a trainer and committee director for the many high school conferences.

If you would like to get a hold of me, my email is listed below and I hope to see you at meetings.

Ray Howard Weishan

Web Manager: Annika Kohrt

Hi! My name is Annika Kohrt, and I’m a sophomore majoring in Linguistics and German and minoring in Neuroscience. This is my second year of MUN and I’m excited to be a part of a group so dynamic and full of learning opportunities -- and I’m looking forward to working with all of you! If you have any questions, suggestions or ideas you feel should be part of our social media accounts or website, feel free to contact me at kohrt008@umn.edu and we can set up a time to grab coffee!

Currently, she works remotely on a gubernatorial campaign back in Illinois. Additionally, Katie is involved in College Democrats, the Undergraduate Political Science Association, and the First-Year Leadership Institute on campus. Katie is also a triplet, and her brothers go to the University of Iowa and the University of Alabama.

Simulations Coordinator: Kimberly White

I’m Kimberly, a Senior from Illinois studying Environmental Science, Policy, & Management, focusing on sustainable agriculture and international development. This is my fourth year in Model UN and my third year on the Board, serving as the Secretary General last year. I have worked as both a Chair and as crisis staff at MinneMUN for the last three years, and won Outstanding Representation at AMUN for the United Kingdom in 2015 and Soviet Union in 2016. I also love performing, and over the summers I'm a cast member at the Bristol Renaissance Faire in Kenosha, Wisconsin. I'm looking forward to a great year with UNSA! He has been involved in Model United Nations since his second year of high school, and since then has gone on to hold multiple positions, including Secretary-General (HS) and Simulations Director (collegiate). He is also a staff member with AMUN since 2017. In addition to undergraduate studies and this club, Clifton is also a cadet with the UMN ROTC program and hopes to commission into the US Army as an officer. When not occupied with the aforementioned, Clifton can likely be found in a library on campus, reading history books, attempting to learn Chinese, or browsing memes.
